The thinks you can think at 3:30 a.m.

I was awake at 3:30 a.m. Again.

So I flipped on the TV to get back to sleep. One of the movies that was on was called “Mother’s Day”, with Rebecca De Mornay.

The plot description: “The sadistic members of a villainous family return to their childhood home to terrorize the new home owners and their guests.”

I thought, what the hell happened to Rebecca De Mornay’s career?

Then I remembered, she never really had one. Duh.

Excellent car radio timing – it’s what I do

This morning during my drive to work I was listening to a local country station, and was suddenly confronted by some new “Big and Rich” song. Not really a big fan, so . . .

I flipped over to WLS-FM for some oldies, and was very pleased to hear the very first line of Stevie Wonder’s “You are the Sunshine of My Life” over the speakers.

Up went the volume, and then again, and then one more time. There is no volume that is “too high” for this tune, or indeed for most of Stevie Wonder’s late 60s and early 70s recorded output which, for me, is just about the pinnacle of popular music in the post-Beatles rock n roll era.

Listen to the mastery, the power and subtlety of his vocals. Turn it up, but most of all, ENJOY.

Ed Kretz, famous motorcycle racer and now, subject of a new movie

My old Buffalo Grove High School (Ill.) classmate, George Gier, was so enamored of a famous motorcycle racer that he wrote a screenplay about his life, and now that screenplay is being made into a movie. It’s about a man named Ed Kretz, and naturally enough is called “Kretz”, and you can like the Facebook page or visit the website.

So if you’re into motorcycles, or racing, or if you just feel moved to help George out, then I highly encourage you to keep your eyes peeled for the movie “Kretz”. As George puts it, “It’s a documentary AND a theatrical feature. A floor wax AND a dessert topping. Two mints in one!”
