I will not soon forget his overflowing emotions on the 10th green, after the second hole of his sudden death win over Louis Oosterhuizen of South Africa, where he held long hugs with many close friends and family, except for his father who passed away in 2010.
The tears were flowing, and I suspect that even for the casual or dispassionate observer, it was hard not to get drawn in to the raw emotional power of the moment.
But I was already a fan. I’ve always liked Bubba. How could you not instinctively pull for a golfer named Bubba? It’s a no-brainer.
It was his first major but probably not his last.
